Can You....

cook raw hamburger meat in the lunchbox oven?

Pictures and advice by Carie Partin :)

Ok I have been working on an experiment basically for new comers to cooking on the truck. I got to thinking about how you start out so minimal. Or those who are not allowed inverters. So I wanted to see if you can fry hamburger meat in a lunch box oven. To my surprise YES YOU CAN results show it was excellent idea. 12V lunch box can do more than our imaginations. will be working on more experiments down the road. So far 1 1/2 hr. Cook time. Cook till no longer pink. Making tacos tonight.

What Tools To Use: 12V Appliances

Pictures by Jessica Midgley :)

This question is asked a lot by drivers; especially new drivers: my company doesn't allow inverters are there any 12V appliances out there I can cook with and how good are they?

There are a bunch of 12V items out there: some work better than others. So far, I think it's safe to say most people think the lunch box works best. There are also options for a crock pot, frying pan, coffee pot (takes forever to make a cup so this one you may want to skip!) etc.

So Jessica made some pictures of dishes she made only using 12V appliances! She used a frying pan, crock pot, lunch box oven and water warmer!

Product Suggestion: Cutting Board

Tips and pictures by Ian Lloyd :)

Just joined. As I new guest, here are a couple of gifts. My no-spill crumb and juice catcher cutting board and my favourite breakfast. The cutting board is two items from the dollar store. A cutting mat, trimmed to fit snug inside a baking sheet. Wipes clean but holds crumbs and juice. The breakfast is a wrap. One egg, beaten well, chopped shallot/green onion and chopped mushroom added along with a little churizzo/smoked sausage/chopped bacon. Cooked in microwave about 90 seconds and laid into a tortilla with some cheddar cheese. Clearly you can mix and match ingredients according to availability and preference. We will also add fresh spinach as a topping for this or as a substitute for lettuce in anything. We eat a lot of wraps as the driver can one-hand it when the co-driver prepares them. My wife and I drive team. Canadian company drivers across Canada and lower 48. Had a 2012 Cascadia, Now in a 2013 Prostar

Product Suggestion: Agave Nectar

Product suggestion and picture by Ryan J. LevRon Sr. :)

If you are trying to cut sugar out of your diet or cut down on it this is a good alternative rather than using artificial sweeteners. It does have calories but is much lower on the glycemic index than regular sugar.
Of course we aren't medically trained so check with your doctor and/or dietician first if you have health issues before making changes! :)

Product Suggestion: Veggetti

Recommended by Melissa Cooper :)

With this tool you can turn your favorite veggies into spaghetti to subsitute pasta for healthier eating.

Added note by Tammy Adcock Welch FYI- walmart has these in the as seen on tv section for $14.88. I bought one tonight in Las Cruces, NM.

Product Suggestion: Pasta Bottle

Recommended by Tamara Wilkie :)

You put the pasta in and pour hot water and some salt and let sit 10 minutes .... fresh pasta gets a bit sticky so I don't do it longer than that.... haven't tried dry pasta yet

Product Suggestion: Can Opener

Recommended bu Tracy Greene :)

This is probably one of my favorite tools in the truck. I do not have good strength or mass grip in my right hand. I can't twist the usual manual can openers. I found this at Walmart and now always have a second back up. It ratchets instead of trying to twist a little handle. You close it over the lid and pull on the handle and it ratchets it's way around the can. Love it.

Product Suggestions From A Driver

Posted by David Reynolds - thanks David!

A couple product suggestions. Both were found at different Wal Mart's. The 1st is Steve Petersen Hot Polish Sausage. They also have all beef. Amazing flavor! Found at the Wal Mart on I-57 exit 308 in IL. This is a Chicago product.

The other is Applewood Smoked Gouda found near the deli at any one. Amazing on burgers, hot sammy's, and by itself.
